Homeless Faces of NYC

The following portraits of homeless people were taken on the streets of New York City. These portraits were also taken in the heart of Manhattan, a center of enormous wealth and economic power. This economic inequality underscores the barbarous reality that defines life in the 21st century United States, and in much of the world today.

In an increasingly atomized society, where many people have come to define themselves based solely on their incomes and careers, those who are unable to attain sound employment are easily lost and forgotten. It is with these portraits that I have sought to bring attention to their neglected and terribly tragic plight.

These are the faces of our fellow Americans. They survive in the face of the most terrible economic hardship, apathy, and indifference. They cry out to be heard.
